To say I am excited about our New Fireplace Surround Project would be an understatement! First, a little background on how we got to this point.
A little over five years ago, we relocated to Texas from California. One thing we knew for certain regarding this move: we were going to build our first home together. As with any new build, there are decisions to be made. As a matter of fact, it felt like there were a million decisions to make. One of the biggest, and perhaps the most prominent, was the fireplace surround. Simply, it is such a focal point in our home.
We were both in agreement and knew that we wanted a beautiful mantel. The fireplace surround created a plethora of decisions to be made. Did we want tile? Marble? Stone? We chose stone for a more rustic look, which was quite popular back in 2012. Once it was complete, it immediately felt a bit heavy for the room. However, it wasn’t until we painted the walls white that we realized we had to make a change. And we wanted to make it sooner rather than later.

Get the Look
As I began to contemplate options, I knew I wanted a timeless, elegant and refined combination. To make the change, I teamed up with Metrie.
Metrie sponsored this post, but as always, my opinions are 100% honest and my own.
Recently, Metrie introduced Option {M}, combinations of mouldings and interior doors by decor styles. They are beautifully curated and stylish. I immediately fell in love with New Traditional. It is sophisticated, yet relaxed and oh so perfect.
You can get the look by keeping your lines clean. Think classic and sophisticated designs. This is not a trendy look, but it’s on trend. It is tailored and timeless with a current feel.
Now, lets talk about how to make this happen.
- Consider What Stays
In our home, the biggest consideration was the beams.
My Entry
Get the Look
I want to keep them, so the new design will have somewhat simple lines. When you are creating a design, be sure to think about the style of your home as well as the finishes.
- Find Inspiration
Pinterest is an excellent source of inspiration. I was looking for fireplace surround designs that were beautiful and more fitting to our home. I created a board which you can click HERE to follow.
You can even find inspiration on the Metrie site. I could move right into this gorgeous space!
- Plans
- Hire Contractor (Maybe That’s You)
We are lucky to have family members who are very talented with home project skills. If that were not the case, we would hire a contractor. You can reach out to friends and acquaintances for recommendations.
My father in law to the rescue….
- Purchase Materials
Metrie has made this easy! The Option {M} curated combinations offers gorgeous interior moulding options. By thinking about these items at the beginning of the project, you will be able to ensure the outcome succinctly matches your vision.
I hope you will check back to see my completed mantel!
Now, it’s your turn!
